  • The Return of Martin Guerre (1982) (available on Kanopy, Prime, Apple, and Tubi) This discussion will be led by Bob Parrillo. The Return of Martin Guerre is a 1982 French historical drama film directed by Daniel Vigne and based on a renowned 1983 microhistory book by historian Natalie Zemon Davis. This film revisits a famous French court case from the 16th century about a man returning to his village after a 10 year absence. The younger Martin was surly and unhappy. This Martin is cheerful, happy to be home, and eager to resume life with a wife he had shunned. Is he TOO good to be true? Do they care?
  • Jimpa (2025) (available on Prime, Hulu) This discussion will be led by Shari Friedman. Jimpa is a 2025 drama film co-produced and directed by Sophie Hyde, who co-wrote it with Matthew Cormack. Based on Hyde's own family story after her father, Jim Hyde, came out to his wife as gay when they were married with young children, the film stars Olivia Colman, John Lithgow, and Aud Mason-Hyde.
