Volunteering
Welcome volunteers! We are glad you are here! We believe that
volunteering brings meaningful connection, and volunteers are the key
ingredient of a successful village.
Edgewood Village of The Village Common of RI provides important
structures to support members and volunteers.
Volunteers are:
- given an orientation, training, back-up and problem-solving support
- vetted through a secure national online service
- insured through The Village Common of RI
They are also required to respect member privacy and to sign a
confidentiality agreement. The mission and values of our organization must
always be upheld.
Edgewood Village offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are
encouraged to consider their interests, passions, skills, and available time
in choosing a volunteer role. Volunteering can help us stretch in new ways.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Committee work: Sit on committees that plan events, develop
recruitment activities, and advance organizational goals. In addition to our
leadership group, we have divided our work into four committees:
Volunteer Services. Events & Activities, Recruitment & Inclusion, and
Communications.
Technology help: Assist members with learning and navigating
technology to supplement existing support.
Membership Ambassadors: Meet with community members to assist in
completing an application for membership, which includes identifying
services the member may need and/or the member’s volunteer interests.
Volunteer drivers: Supplement existing ride services by providing rides
for members to any destination within a reasonable radius of Edgewood.
Drive based on the days and times you prefer.
Home task volunteers: Assist with tasks around the home that have
become challenging for members.
Village friends: Make check-in calls or visits to individuals who might
otherwise be isolated.
Yard and Property Work: Help members with beginning- and end-of-
season garden chores and related tasks. Put out and retrieve garbage and
recycle bins on a weekly basis.
Office Services: Provide organizational help with village documents,
including data entry, writing of thank you notes, and digital maintenance of
files related to Edgewood Village.
